Before I get in to the drivers that need a win or good points day to make the playoffs aa little housekeeping is in order, after news broke on Tuesday. The driver that was so close to making it to round two of qualifying was Matt Debettendo which was a good effort for this underfunded team GoFas Racing. Debettendo will start 25th.

All throughout the offseason, we have heard about how amazing New England did with the additions of wideout Brandin Cooks, Stephon Gilmore, and many more.  Experts have been calling a possible 16-0 season, a bold prediction, you would think for anytime, but many of these guys, were sure. A Lot of “experts,” who don’t have New England winning all the games this season still had them winning the entire first half of the season, going into there by with no discrepancies. These picks up were fantastic, without a doubt, you will not be able to take that away for the defending Superbowl champions. Although, we still agree with what we have heard, these are still great pickups, they weren’t enough for a win on Thursday night, and Kansas City were ready to crash the party.

The night was supposed to be all about a celebration, after the Patriots won the Superbowl last season. Patriots owner Robert Kraft, took the field after an introduction from the man himself Mark Wahlberg to walk out the Lombardi Trophy. He was joined by Patriots veterans, and star wide receiver Julian Edelman who is out for the season, as they held up five Lombardi’s as the fifth banner was revealed in Foxboro.

Fun Fact: The Patriots had to make a lot of changes to the stadium, and create and addition to fit its fifth banner on Thursday night, seems like a good problem to have.

The game started off in normal New England style, domination. Tom Brady, who is entering his 17th season in New England, made easy work of the Chiefs defense on the first drive. Brady utilized the no huddle offense, and made it down the field in less than three minutes to score the seasons first points. Mike Gillislee who was with the Buffalo Bills last season, scored on a rush off the right side, this will not be the last time he saw the endzone. On this drive, and early in the game, it was pretty obvious that the Chiefs were not getting enough pressure on Brady and company. They also didn’t do a good job against the run. It was clear early on that they were missing long time defensive tackle Dontari Poe. It seemed to look like the Patriots were picking up, right where they left off. This wasn’t really a surprise for anyone.

Unfortunately for Kansas City, the opening offensive drive for the Chiefs didn’t end in the same New England style, it was quite the complete opposite. On the first play for Alex Smith and the Chiefs offense, rookie running back Kareem Hunt took a carry towards the outside, and fumbled it, recovered by the Patriots. Kareem Hunt’s fumble was on his first career carry in the NFL, but as you read a little later, he did not dwell on that fact at all.

Fun Fact: Chiefs rookie Kareem Hunt fumbled, and lost it to the Patriots on his first career attempt. In his four years at Toledo, he took 855 career college touches, and didn’t lose a single fumble.

New England got right back in scoring distance quick, and Brady threw a beautiful pass to Gronkowski in the endzone. After reviewing the play however, the play did not stand, and the Patriots faced 4th down. It Bill Belichick fashion, the Patriots went for it, and was shut down by the Chiefs defense, this was our first momentum shift of the game.

Alex Smith capitalized quick, and scored a touchdown to tight end Harris. He finished the game with only 2 receptions, 15 yards and 1 touchdown. Chiefs stud tight end, Travis Kelce also did not perform up to expectations, as New England’s game plan shut him down. Kelce finished with 5 receptions, for 40 yards.

We won’t get into the entire scoring summary, because how boring would that be. We will head to the notables, and discuss the impacts for each team.

New England’s Notables:

Mike Gillislee leads the conversation for New England offense, as he scored all three touchdowns for the Patriots. Gillislee only finished with 45 yards on 15 carries, but he was shown to be the red zone back for the Patriots. He did get stopped twice by the Chiefs defense on 4th and shorts, so something to keep in mind. Both these plays were crucial to the Chiefs victory.

Brady did have great performances to wide receiver Danny Amendola, especially in the first half. He finished the game with 6 receptions, for 100 yards. Amendola unfortunately left the game early in the fourth quarter with what they would call a head injury. He did enter concussion protocol.

When Amendola left the game, Cooks seem to step up and take more of the workload. The throws that Brady made with Cooks early proved the trust between the two, and should be a dynamic duo for this season without Edelman. Cooks finished with 3 receptions and 88 yards.

Just like Kansas City’s Travis Kelce, Patriots Rob Gronkowski was shut down as well. After Gronks drop in the endzone, he only caught two passes, and finished with 33 yards, easy to say not the performance fantasy owners were hoping for.

Also coming over from Buffalo was star cornerback Stephon Gilmore. For the most part Gillmore played great defense, especially in man to man coverage. He did however, let up a 75 yard touchdown to Tyreek Hill. It did look like confusion, i will give him the benefit of the doubt, he looked like he thought he had help over the top, but the safety was nowhere to be found. Gillmore will have to evaluate his play, and look to improve as he will be manned up for the majority of the season on the top receivers in the league.

Kansas City Notables:

Kareem Hunt show! After his fumble on his first career carry, Hunt went absolutely off. He broke a NFL record for most total yards for a player making there NFL Debut. Hunt did it all, he went for 148 yards on the ground, averaging 8.7 yards per carry, and one touchdown, his longest was a 58 yard run. He was explosive in the passing game as well, receiving for 98 yards on 5 receptions and two touchdowns. His longest in the air was 78 yards. He is a very explosive player totaling for 246 yards. The record was previously held by recently retired Anquan Boldin who did it in 2003.

Alex Smith also had an amazing game, and rightfully so. Smith has been battling the media with the risks of losing his starting job to Chiefs 1st round pick Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was not only drafted in the first round, but Kansas City traded with the Buffalo Bills, to move up. Alex Smith did not disappoint, and had arguably the best game of his career He had 28 completions for 368 passing yards, and 4 touchdowns. He had a passing rating of 148.6, he was incredible. It’s safe to say he has silenced the critics, about who deserves to starting job in Kansas City, especially if he lights off again.

The Kansas City Chiefs defense, was nothing more than average towards the beginning of this one, but when the game came down to crunch time, they showed true grit. The defense had two crucial stops on Mike Gillislee and the Patriots offense, as well as 3 late game sacks, lead by edge rusher Justin Houston who had two when Brady was attempting one of his famous comebacks. This defense could use more help on the defensive front, especially in the middle, but either way, they will finish as a top 5 defense.

In conclusion, it’s safe to safe to say New England is going to be challenged after this game. I would look for teams to go after this defense, as they have seen plenty of flaws. The Patriots defense proved on Thursday night, that they rely heavily on linebacker Dont’a Hightower. He must remain healthy, if the Patriots what to get this defensive squad back on the right path.

For the Chiefs, not everything is cotton candy, and gumdrops. They did lose Eric Berry for the entire season with an achilles rupture. Although they had an explosive performance by Alex Smith, Kareem Hunt and basically the entire offense, losing a key member on your secondary, is going to allow more points on the board, this is going to cause everyone to work harder. We will be closely watching his replacement, as will Kansas City’s opponents, as they look to exploit Andy Reid’s defense.

Fun Fact: The Chiefs winning in Foxboro on Thursday is not something that happens often. The Chiefs were only the third AFC team in 49 games to win on the road against the Patriots. Kansas City also won in Foxboro for the first time since 1990.

Fun Fact:  This is the first loss ever for the Patriots in the Tom Brady Era, when New England is leading going into the 4th quarter. Before Thursday night, Brady and the Patriots were 105-0.

We here at BenchCasters are hoping for a fast and healthy recovery for Eric Berry. Whether you are a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs or not, it’s alway terrible to see someone go out like that. Berry had such an amazing story, with returning to the NFL and winning Comeback Player of the Year, after battling with Leukemia.

Keep up with @BenchCasters for all your top news in sports! We head to more Week 1 games, on Sunday!

College Football is back! Man was the first week exciting! We had blowouts, upsets, and possible college football playoff previews. All in the first week! If this is any indication of how this season is going to be, we are in for quite a treat! Let’s break down the Top 25 team’s games, as well as a few notables.

Saturday Aug 26th

#19 USF 42   San Jose St. 22

We start off with 19th rank South Florida taking on San Jose St. Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong gets himself a win in his first game as head coach of the Bulls, but it started off shaky. South Florida was down 16-0 and held to only 22 yards in the first quarter, but found a way to overcome it. South Florida wound up with a 315-yard rushing night, and had fast tempo offense, and they looked good doing it. Quarterback Quinton Flowers threw for 186 yards, 2 TDS, 1Int. He also ran for 67. South Florida looks to create their first winning streak in the Charlie Strong era as they host FCS team Stony Brook for there home opener. San Jose St. is 1-24 in there past 25 games against ranked teams, they will face FCS Cal-Poly next weekend, after that they face Texas.

#14 Stanford 62  Rice 7

The Stanford Cardinals started there season off great with an impressive 62-7 beating over Rice University. NFL first round draft pick and former Stanford Cardinal Christian Mccaffrey was replaced by Bryce Love, who has proved himself already as a number 1 in the backfield rushing for 180 yards and  touchdown. Cameron Scarlett had a successful game in the backfield for the Cardinals as well, finishing with 3 touchdowns and 59 yards. Quarterback Keller Chryst looked solid as well with 253 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rice University will hope to bounce back as they take on Texas-El Paso next. For Stanford, a harder matchup indeed, they head into USC and battle the Trojans.

Thursday Aug 31st

#2 Ohio St 49  Indiana 21

This game was way more interesting than the score shows. Until the end, we almost had a top 5 upset, but head coach Urban Meyer and The Ohio State University did not allow that to happen. Indiana would control the first half and led 21-20 late into the third quarter, but the Buckeyes took over in proved why they were ranked preseason #2. Freshman running back J.K. Dobbins broke a 15 year school record by rushing for 181 yards in his OSU debut. Quarterback J.T. Barrett went 20/35 for 304 yards, 3TDs. He also rushed for 61 yards and 1TD. Wideout Parris Campbell was impressive in this one as well, he went 6 receptions, 136 yards, 1TD. Although we saw a late game lead blown by the Hoosiers, we saw great play from quarterback Richard Lagow who had an incredible 40 completions on 65 attempts, and throwing for 3TDs, 2Ints. WR Simmie Cobbs was on the other end for 11 of those receptions for 149 yards and 1TD. Indiana will travel next week to take on Virgina. OSU will be in primetime once again on Saturday night, as they take on Oklahoma.

#10 Oklahoma St.  59  Tulsa 24

Oklahoma State played a fantastic game against Tulsa Thursday, led by Quarterback Mason Rudolph. He went 20 for 24, 303 yards and 3 TDs. Oklahoma States backfield was outstanding led by Justice Hill who rushed for 132 yards, and 1 TD. Hill was assisted by freshman running back JD King with 95 yards and a touchdown, and redshirt freshman running back Ladarren Brown for 92 yards and a touchdown. This running back by committee could be the way Oklahoma State makes their way up the ranks. Tulsa also had success in the run game as Corey Taylor II rushed for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tulsa will look to get into the win column this week as they take on Louisiana, Oklahoma will look to continue their success as they head to South Alabama.

Friday Sept. 1st

#8 Washington 30  Rutgers 14

University of Washington squeaked by one of college footballs oldest team, Rutgers on Friday. The Huskies were only up 10-7 on the Scarlet Knights who were only 2-10 last season at the half. Washington’s Quarterback took some big hits by Rutgers defense, one causing a fumble and turnover. He did improve however, especially in the second half and showed why he was 6th in the Heisman race last season by going 17 for 30 284 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Receiver Dante Pettis had 85 yards on 3 receptions and took a punt return to the house right before the half. Running back Myles Gaskin was consistent rushing and receiving as he had 59 rushing, and 79 and a touchdown through the air. Rutgers Kyle Bolin passed for 178 on 24 completions 2 touchdowns, but also threw two picks. Bolin, who is a recent transfer from Louisville, will take his Scarlet Knights next week back to Rutgers to face Eastern Michigan. As for Washington, they also will go home, for there opener against Montana.

Utah State 10  #9 Wisconsin 59

This game got ugly quick in Wisconsin, as Quarterback Alex Hornibrook and an explosive Badgers Offense led their team to a blowout victory. Hornibrook went 15 for 23, 244 yards, and 3 touchdowns. A majority of his yards came from tight end Troy Fumagalli who had 105 yards and a touchdown on 5 receptions. Bradrick Shaw and freshman Jonathan Taylor dominated for Wisconsin on the ground. Shaw had 84 yards, 1 TD, and Taylor had 87 and 1TD. The Badger were impressive to say the least, and it will be interesting to see if they can play at this level vs ranked competition. They won’t get an opportunity yet however, they will host Lane Kiffin and Florida Atlantic. Utah State will go home to play Idaho State.

Saturday Sept 2nd

#3 Florida St. 7  #1 Alabama 24

This game was probably the most anticipated game since we had the National Championship game last January. Alabama who is coming off a loss in the Championship game to Clemson, beat the Tigers and the rest of college football for the preseason number 1 ranking, and they proved it in this one against number 3 Florida State. This game was very even for the first half, with both defensives looking fantastic. There were plenty of big hits in this one, especially from the Crimson Tide. Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts played better than his stats look. He went 10 for 18 for 96 yards, and one touchdown. Hurts also rushed for 55 yards, against a strong Seminole defense. The connection Hurts had with wide receiver Calvin Ridley all night was a sight to see. Ridley went for 83 yards and a touchdown on 7 receptions, but each catch always seemed to be crucial for the Alabama offense to continue moving the ball down the field. The success of Tide running game also didn’t disappoint in this one, as Damien Harris ran for 73 yards and a touchdown. Bo Scarbrough also helped out with 40 yards of his own, but it took him 15 attempts to get there, he was mostly shut down by the Noles. One of the biggest stories of the game was the Alabama special teams. They managed to get a blocked punt, block field goal, and they recovered a fumble on a FSU kick return, these events were the reason Alabama won this one. The other major story in college football’s game of the week was Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois. Francois, was brilliant in the first half, and keep the Noles in it all the way until late third quarter. He then threw 2 interceptions, and his luck got even worse. Francois was injured in the fourth quarter and had to leave the game. It was later found out, that he will be out for the rest of the season, a huge hit to Florida State. They will start a freshman quarterback this week, who came in this game when Francois went down, but did no throw a pass. The Seminoles will return home to play Louisiana-Monroe, as for Alabama, they will stay at home, and face Fresno State.

Western Michigan 31  #4USC 49

The Trojans hosted Western Michigan on Saturday, and started off very rocky for Sam Darnold and USC.  The Trojans started the first half off very shaky, and then exploded, starting in the third quarter to win by more than two scores. Darnold ended the night 22 for 33 for 289 and two interceptions. There is without a doubt reporters will be talking about his NFL draft stock after this one. Deontay Burnett was fantastic catching Arnold’s passes however, going for 142 yards on 7 receptions. The story of the game however was the running game on both sides. USC Ronald Jones ran for 159 yards, scoring 3 touchdowns and averaging over 8 yards a carry. For the Western Michigan side of the house, LeVante Ballamy had 102 yards, and Jamauri Bogan rushed for 77 and a touchdown. Cornerback Darius Phillips had an explosive 100 yard kick return for a touchdown in this one as well. The Trojans cannot have a shaky start this week, as they look to take on Stanford, who is highly ranked. Western Michigan also has another tough game, with in state rival Michigan State.

Kent State 3  #5 Clemson 56

The defending National Champions keep the impressive play going through week one as they dominated Kent State 56-3. Kelly Bryant quickly filled the shoes of now Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson as he went for 236 yards and a touchdown vs Kent State. He also rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown. Freshman running back Travis Etienne also had a fantastic outing as he averaged over 8 yards a carry with 81 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers only allowed 120 total yards against the Golden Flashes, with only 1 passing yard. The TIgers look to continue there impressive game play as they play highly ranked Auburn this week. The Kent State Golden Flashes will hope to earn a little more yardage, especially in the air, as they take on Caylin Newton and Howard University.

Akron 0  #6 Penn St. 52

Another blowout this week, as the Nittany Lions crushed the Zips. This beating was led by running back Saquon Barkley, who put his name in the early Heisman talk after this outing. He had 172 rushing yards for two touchdowns, and 54 receiving yards. PSU’s Trace McSorley threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. Both of his touchdowns came from hooking up with tight end Mike Gesicki, who had six receptions for 58 yards. Penn State is no joke this year, and they look to continue there explosive play against Pittsburgh, and Akron will look to eliminate that goose egg when they play Arkansas-Pine Bluff, both Saturday.

UTEP 7  #7 Oklahoma 56

The Sooners looked incredible in there season opener, as they easily took down UTEP. Baker Mayfield had a pro performance day, going 19 for 20 329 yards and 3 touchdown, he had only one incompletion, and he only played the first half! Tight End Mike Andrews had 134 yards on 7 receptions and a touchdown. Mayfield has opened a lot of eyes this week, and I’m sure he will be on NFL radars even more. (Just a reminder, if you remember BenchCasters editor Brian Pezon’s, projected Preseason All Americans, he chose Mayfield as the Quarterback. Here at BenchCasters, we know what we are talking about!) UTEP who only had 167 total yards, looks to improve as they host Rice, as for Oklahoma, they are set to travel to Ohio State, where they will take on the Buckeyes in Saturday night primetime.

#11 Michigan 33  #17 Florida
Michigan and Florida was a great game Saturday. We saw some good play, and bad play from each team. The Wolverines, were the better team however, and deserved the win. Quarterback Wilton Speight looked shaky for Michigan as he threw two interceptions for touchdowns in less than two minutes. They did have good play from freshman wide out Tarik Black. Another Freshman in the mix in this one was Florida’s Quarterback Feleipe Franks, who only went 5 for 9 for 75 yards, as they played two quarterbacks. (Malik Zaire was the other) Both teams have work to do, especially on the Gator side of the football, so we will look to see how next week pans out. Florida will see Northern Colorado, and Michigan will play their home opener against Cincinnati.

Georgia Southern 7  #12 Auburn 41

Auburn Tigers took on Georgia Southern in a no contest match, there isn’t much to talk about in this one, it was super one sided. Auburn defense only gave up 41 total yards to the Eagles. The running game for Auburn was impressive from both Kam Martin and Kerryon Johnson, and oddly enough, each of them ran for 136 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Southern is a good ball club, so they will bounce back, they test there luck this week home against New Hampshire. The Auburn Tigers are set to face defending National Champions Clemson, on Saturday.

BYU 0  #13 LSU 27

LSU gets a shutout against Brigham Young, and the running game was also the big story. Running backs Derrius Guice and Darrell Williams both ran incredible for a total of over 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. Guice went 122 and two, and Williams went 92 yards and a touchdown. BYU will look to bounce back and create more than 97 total yards as they are set to play Utah. LSU will play its home opener against FCS team of Chattanooga.

Appalachian St. 10  #15 Georgia 31

No upsets for Appalachian State this week, as they lose to the Bulldogs. Appalachian State’s Taylor Lamb did look impressive however, as he went 18 for 27 128 yards, and rushing for 66 and a touchdown. Georgia’s running game was dominate, led by Nick Chubb. Chubb rushed for 96 yards on 15 attempts and scoring twice. The Bulldogs are set to play the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame Saturday night. Appalachian St. will face Boone, North Carolina.

#16 Louisville 35  Purdue 28

Louisville started off to a rough start, but sneaked out with a win against Purdue. Lamar Jackson had 30 completions for 378 yards and two touchdowns. It didn’t stop there, for Jackson’s near perfect performance, he also rushed for 107 yards. Jackson distributed the ball well too, getting one receiver over 100 yards, (Jaylon Smith 117 yards) and one very close to that mark. (Freshman Redshirts Dez Fitzpatrick 95 yards, 1 TD) Purdue has some good receiver play from a redshirt freshman of there own, as Jackson Anthrop went for  82 yards, and 2 TDs. Purdue stayed in this game for the majority of this one, and they will win some important ball games this year, they will Play Ohio on Friday. Louisville will open its ACC play as they head to North Carolina on Saturday.

Bethune-Cook 13  #18 Miami(FL) 41

The U is back! Signal Caller Malik Rosier, and an explosive backfield wins it for the Hurricanes. Rosier went for 217 and 3 touchdowns in this victory. The backfield of Miami was split, but both successful. Mark Walton had 148 yards and two touchdowns, and Travis Homer ran for 103 yards. The Miami defense was also on point as they forced two turnovers on the Wildcats. Bethune-Cook will play Louisiana, and the Hurricanes will play Arkansas State.

Stony Brook 17  #19 USF 31

Southern Florida played for a second game, and wins verse Stony Brook. Quinton Flowers was great again as he passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown and 70 yards. Running back D’Ernest Johnson for the Bulls ran for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stony Brook threw two interceptions and were only 5-17 on 3rd down, the biggest reason they couldn’t stay in the game.

Central Arkansas 19  #20 Kansas State 55

Kansas State quarterback Jesse Ertz went off! 333 yards and 4 touchdowns to defeat Central Arkansas 55-19. He helped create two 100 yard receivers for the Wildcats, as Byron Pringle went for 121 yards and touchdown, and Isaiah Harris went for 118 and a score. The Wildcat did let up 421 yards, so that will need improvement if they want to battle against ranked opponents. Kansas State continue their season next against Charlotte, as Central Arkansas will go back to the FCS and play Murray State.

#22 West Virginia 24  #21 Virginia Tech 31

This was one of the best games of the week by far. Virginia Tech, led by Freshman quarterback Josh Jackson, proved why he was the first freshman named starter for the Hokies since Mike Vick in 1999. He threw for 235 yards and one touchdown, and was also explosive on the ground rushing for over 101 yards and a touchdown. Jackson was named ACC Rookie of the week. He connected with wide out Cam Phillips to create a dynamic duo for 7 receptions, 138 yards and a touchdown. West Virginia had a great game as well, but just fell behind in the end. Quarterback Will Grier, who was making his first start since being suspended at Florida University in 2015 passed for 371 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had a good connection with both Gary Jennings and David Stills. Jennings went off going for 189 yards on 13 receptions and a score, Still had 94 yards on 9 receptions and two touchdowns. Both teams will remain ranked after this game, and look to constantly improve their chances at making the playoffs. West Virginia will return home and face East Carolina, as the Hokies will face FCS opponent Delaware.

**Upset Alert** Maryland 51  #23 Texas 41

The Longhorns were the first top 25 team to go down this season, as they lose to unranked Maryland. The Terps were led by running back Ty Johnson who had 132 yards and a touchdown. Signal Caller Tyrrell Pigrome threw for 175 and two scores, he also rushed for a touchdown on 64 yards. Antoine Brooks Jr. had a blocked field goal return for a touchdown as well. For the Longhorns, not all was lost as Steve Buechele threw 375 yards and 2 TDs. Collin Johnson was over 100 yards receiving as well with 125 yards and a score. The Longhorns have some work to do, to get them back into the top 25, but that might take some time. They are set to play San Jose State. Maryland will host Towson.

Montana St. 0  #24 Washington St. 31

Another Shutout in our top 25 games, as Washington State beats Montana State. Washington State quarterback Luke Falk had a stellar game with 311 yards and 3 touchdowns. He threw 13 times to running back James Williams who had 163 receiving and two scores. Montana State were no match for this Washington State team only earning 143 total yards.

#25 Tennessee 42  Georgia Tech 41

We had one hell of a finish on Labor Day, as Tennessee and Georgia Tech needed extra time to decide a winner. After each team scoring multiple times in overtime, Georgia Tech decided to go for 2, and end it. The Yellow Jackets were unsuccessful and the Volunteers won. Tennessee has great play from running back John Kelly who had 19 attempts, 128 yards 4TD. Wideout Marquez Callaway had 115 yards receiving as well, with two touchdowns. Georgia Tech’s Traquon Marshal rushed for 5 touchdowns, and 245 yards, the Volunteers had an issue with Tech’s option all night, but they squeaked out a victory here, and they look to continue their luck as they host Indiana State this week. As for Georgia Tech, this won’t be the last time you hear about them. They played a great game, and they could make some noise in the games to come, they look to restart against FCS Jacksonville State.

Other important games to note:

Texas A&M 44  UCLA 45

UCLA had one amazing comeback against Texas A&M on Sunday night. UCLA’s Josh Rosen threw for 491 yards and 4 touchdowns, he was absolutely outstanding. He also created three receivers over the century mark in receiving. Tight end Caleb Wilson had a game to remember catching the ball 15 times for 203 yards. He was followed by another great performance in wide out Darren Andrews who when for 137 yards on 12 receptions with 2 touchdowns. Jordan Lasley had 100 yards with a touchdown as well. Texas A&M earned the lead for most of this one, they did this a different way however, the ground game. A&M’s Trayveon Williams ran for 203 yards and 2 scores, as Keith Ford rushed for 114 yards and 3 touchdowns. Both teams had fantastic games offensively, and will look to lower the yards allowed. Texas A&M will face Nicholls State, and UCLA will host Hawaii.

NC State 28  South Carolina 35

This east coast battle came right down to the battle in South Carolina. The Gamecocks squeak by with a win, and enjoyed great play from their quarterback Jake Bentley who went 17 for 29 and 215 yards. He threw 3 touchdowns. NC State had an opportunity to tie the game at the end of the ball game, but were unsuccessful. Ryan Finley, NC State quarterback had 45 completions for 415 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Tyshun(Deebo) Samuel caught both touchdowns for 83 yards. He also had a kick return touchdown for 97 yards. North Carolina State will look to rebound and get in the W column for the first time this season against Marshall. As for the Gamecocks, they will travel to play Missouri.

Temple 16  Notre Dame 49

The Fighting Irish beats Temple after great play from entire offense. The Irish led by quarterback Brandon Wimbush went for 184 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 106 and a score. The offensive line for Notre Dame kept up the fantastic play for there running backs as well. Running backs Josh Adams (161, 2TDs) and Dexter Williams (124, 1TD) both ran over the century mark. Notre Dame is set to face Georgia on Saturday night. as Temple, they will hope for strong play once again from quarterback Logan Marchi, who threw for 245 yards and two scores against the Irish defense. They will face Villanova.

Howard 43  UNLV40  45PT underdogs win

Howard University wins in an upset to UNLV Saturday. Caylin Newton, younger brother of Cam Newton went for 140 yards in the air, and 190 rushing for 3 total touchdowns, as he led his team to a victory. Howard was a 45 point underdog, and overcame. I feel we will hear more of Newton in games to come.

Other notable players who had fantastic starts to there seasons are listed below:

  • Navy QB- Zach Abbey 3/10 110yd 1TD,1INT, 32 attempts 235 yards 2TD
  • Mizzou QB- Drew Lock 21/34 521 yards 7TD 1INT
  • Mizzou WR- J’Mon Moore 4rec 187 yards 2TD

NFL Outlook-BenchCasters Analysts breakdown all games for NFL Week 1

By Christian S Rauh

September 5th, 2017

Thats right! The thing everyone has been waiting on since February is finally back! NFL Football!

We had a fantastic season last year, ending it historical fashion. The last time we saw NFL teams take the field was Super Bowl LI. The Atlanta Falcons took on the New England Patriots. Atlanta started the game off on fire, and carried that all the way into halftime, leading 28-3. This is where things changed directions, and as long as you haven’t lived under a rock the past few months, you know the rest. The Atlanta Falcons blew the lead, and were defeated in overtime by the score 34-28.

The Falcons haven’t lived this defeat down since that mid-winter Sunday, as social media, and reporters have constantly reminded Atlanta of this dreadful loss. The Falcons look to make a trip back to the big game, and to most experts, it’s quite possible we will get that opportunity.

On the New England side of the house, you would think the dynasty would have to end? Right? Well, don’t go holding your breath, after the Patriots victory, they have added some studs to improve there chances at another Super Bowl Championship. Will we see a rematch? It is possible, but 30 other teams will fight for the right to say otherwise.

Today at BenchCasters, we are going to break down all the games of Week 1, and predict who will win. So, how important is it to win your first game of the season? Well, four of the last 5 Super Bowl Champions have won there Week 1 games, starting them off on the right foot towards the Lombardi Trophy. (The only one to lose week 1 was the 2014 New England Patriots, vs Miami 12-7.

The five people who be breaking down this season are BenchCasters editors, and analysts. They are fans just like you, and each give their own original input on why they make what pick. Edward Sponeybarger, Jarae Thurmond, John Milanowski, Brian Pezon, and myself Christian Rauh will round out the group. We will keep track of all the results here at BenchCasters, and have standings every week after Week 1. BRAGGING RIGHTS IS AT STAKE!

Let’s break it down:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins-POSTPONED

First i would like to start off saying that usually during Week 1, everyone plays. This will be different this year however. The Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will reschedule there game to a date yet to be determined, due to the incoming storm of Hurricane Irma. The plan in place as it stands now, the teams will play Week 11, where both teams originally have a bye week.

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots-Thursday 9/7 8:30pm Eastern (NFL Network)

The defending champions will start off the season for the league, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday on NFL Network, here are our Predictions.

Last Game-2015 Divisional Playoffs- NE 27, KC 20

Spread:  NE -9

Edward Sponeybarger-PATRIOTS WIN (27-17)- Fresh out the gates the defending champs are tested early with that ferocious KC defense. Alex Smith struggles down the stretch forcing the defense to tire. Tom Brady is one of the GOATS for a reason, leading the troops to victory.

Jarae Thurmond-PATRIOTS WIN

John Milanowski-PATRIOTS WIN- New England over the Chiefs here because i do think New England is the better team. Simple and sweet, but I could see both teams making playoffs at the end of the regular season

Brian Pezon-PATRIOTS WIN (27-10)- This game is more about the Chiefs struggle on offense then the Patriots being the dominant force most see them to be. Chiefs will rely heavily on the playmaking of second year man tyreek hill and rookie HB Kareem Hunt. New England will shut this down and get the easy win.

Christian Rauh-PATRIOTS WIN (34-16)- New England has done everything right this offseason with addressing there weak spots (if you want to call them weak) Cooks, and Gilmore will be solid from the start. Brady struggles on first few drives without Edelman but finds his groove with good play from Cooks and Hogan. Chiefs defense has made solid improvements this offseason and it shows, but is still no match for the defending champs. Smith throws 2 crucial interceptions for KC.

New York Jets at Buffalo Bills-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

The New York Jets Travel to Orchard Park, to take on AFC East Rivals Buffalo Bills.

Last Game- 2016 Week 17-NYJ 30, BUF 10

Spread: Buf -9.5

Edward Sponeybarger-BILLS WIN (13-7)- Not much to see here in this AFC East rivalry game. Bills barely win but more impressive is the athletic ability of this Jets defense. Bills WIN (13-7)

Jarae Thurmond-BILLS WIN

John Milanowski-BILLS WIN- The better team here is the Bills regardless who will start at QB for them. The Jets don’t have much talent on the  roster  and QB Josh McCown is known to make mistakes. This is not one of the games i have Jets winning, i don’t see them win no more than four.

Brian Pezon-BILLS WIN (28-7)- Once again this game is more about the Jets losing than the Bills winning. Neither team is too great but I will take Shady and that running game over that Jets defense any time. Bills defense will look dominant against this Jet’s high school looking offense.

Christian Rauh-BILLS WIN (20-13)- New York is in clear tanking mode, and it obvious to just about everyone, don’t let them fool you. They did grab Jermaine Kearse in a blockbuster trade with Seattle, he will get over 100 yards receiving in this one. Shady McCoy is going to go off this week, against a defense struggling to find the replacement for Sheldon Richardson. He rushes for 127 yards, and 1TD.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

Joe Haden and the Pittsburgh Steelers faces his former team and AFC North Rivals, Cleveland Browns. Rookie QB Deshone Kizer gets the nod for the Browns.

Last Game- 2016 Week 17-PIT 27, CLE 24

Spread: Pit -8.5

Edward Sponeybarger-STEELERS WIN (31-13)- With all the upside of Cleveland, this game against Pittsburgh will test this young team. Steelers depth on offense proves too much down the stretch and the Steel City starts off 1-0 with a bang.

Jarae Thurmond-STEELERS WIN

John Milanowski-STEELERS WIN– The Steelers high powered offense against a low ranked browns defense that doesn’t have much talent will be Cleveland’s downfall.

Brian Pezon-STEELERS WIN (30-17)- Story here is Joe Haden against his old team. Right? Can someone on the Browns exploid Haden? I think so, look for a Browns wide out to burn Hayden for a 50+ yard TD reception. Steelers offense is still among the best, the Killer B’s (ben, bell and brown) light up the stat sheet.

Christian Rauh-BROWNS WIN (27-24)- Thats right, you read that correctly, the Browns will shock the world Week 1. I believe there is a solid reason why Kizer was named the starter, and Osweiler got shipped out. Pittsburgh is an impressive team and this will there division all year, but they tend to struggle at times with Cleveland, Sunday will be no different, and KIZERMANIA will begin.

Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

The Oakland Raiders enter the Music City with newly acquired Marshawn Lynch who returns from retirement.

Last Game- 2016 Week 3- OAK 17, TEN 10

Spread: Ten -2.5

Edward Sponeybarger-RAIDERS WIN (28-14)- OAKLAND is just nasty. Not much else to say right now.

Jarae Thurmond-RAIDERS WIN

John Milanowski-RAIDERS WIN–  Oaklands defensive line will be too much for Tennessee offensive front to handle.

Brian Pezon-TITANS WIN (33-28)- High scoring affair shows the lack of solid defense and high powered offenses. I will take that titans defense to be able to put together one more stop than the Raiders defense. Raiders are well rounded on offense but we haven’t seen how they work with Marshawn yet. Titans scary rushing attack will be going right against the Raiders weakest spot on their team. LINEBACKERS. Look for that to be the difference.

Christian Rauh-TITANS WIN (38-24)- Full of surprises in Week 1, but the Titans are the real deal, pay attention to them this season, they will be battling for a spot in the postseason down the stretch. Mariota finally has the support he needs to move into that next tier of Elite quarterbacks, and we will get a nice taste of it here on Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

Doug Marrone and the Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to the battered city of Houston who many will question if they are in a football mindset, after Hurricane Harvey.

Last Game- 2016 Week 15- HOU 21, JAX 20

Spread:  Hou -5

Edward Sponeybarger-TEXANS WIN (16-6)- JJ Watt will be an absolute force.

Jarae Thurmond-TEXANS WIN

John Milanowski-TEXANS WINThis one was tough for me to decide. Both teams having question marks at Quarterback, but I think Houston’s defense will have an explosive day, and that will be the deciding factor.

Brian Pezon-TEXANS WIN (17-6)- Houston will have a great defensive performance. I’m very on on this defense and how well they shut teams down from getting points. Offense will learn to keep them ahead when the defense only allows field goals. Offense will turn it over once and give Jags good field position but two field goals is all I see from Jacksonville. Texans get a good divisional win.

Christian Rauh-TEXANS WIN (31-3)- I think all the people who doubt JJ Watt and company are football ready will easily be put to rest after this week. Houston goes off the entire game, and doesn’t hold back on there division foe. The city of Houston gets a deserving victory. JJ Watt gets 3 sacks to start the season off in the lead for league.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins host Division rivals Philadelphia Eagles. Second year quarterback Carson Wentz looks to start off on the right foot and overcome the “Sophomore Slump.”

Last Game- 2016 Week 14- WAS 27, PHI 22

Spread: Phi -1

Edward Sponeybarger-REDSKINS WIN (20-14)-My game of the week(tied). Both teams have huge upgrades and are looking to win the NFC EAST. Washington eeks this one out though.

Jarae Thurmond-EAGLES WIN

John Milanowski- EAGLES WIN -This one was a no brainer for me. Eagles have a much better offense than the Redskins, and the Redskins defense is iffy at best who is also without Murphy.
Brian Pezon- EAGLES WIN (24-20)- Great division, great game. Eagles all around team is better, Philadelphia has less injuries. Murphy being hurt will limit their pass rush and Wentz will hook up with Alshon Jeffery and Eagles will out do the Redskins in this one.
Cardinals over lions this one come down to who offense is better and that would be the cardinals for me

Christian Rauh-EAGLES WIN (21-13)-Wentz will have a breakout season, with new weapons like Alshon Jeffery, they will beat Washington in Week 1. Redskins defense is hurting right now, especially with the loss of Murphy, and possible early retirement from Cravens.

Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald and the Arizona Cardinals will fly into Motor City, and attempt to beat the highest paid player Matt Stafford, and the Detroit Lions.

Last Game- 2015 Week 5- ARI 42, DET 17

Spread: Ari -1.5

Edward Sponeybarger-LIONS WIN (24-21)-Arizona is an all in team this year will star players only getting older. It will interesting to see how they do early on against the Lions. I see this game being really close. I’ve got the Lions stealing one here.

Jarae Thurmond-LIONS WIN

John MIlanowski-CARDINALS WIN-This one will come down to whose offense is better, and to me that’s Arizona.

Brian Pezon- CARDINALS WIN (18-10)- It’s still early in the season so Cardinals are fresh and not needing their walkers and their life alert. Lions roster is less than impressive they don’t have anyone on either side of the ball that can win you a game or that will turn it on when the game is on the line. Yes I know Stafford leads the league with 4th quarter comebacks last year. But you have to throw against peterson and the honey badger to do it this week. 4th quarter drive comes up short with a Tyrann Mathieu INT.

Christian Rauh-CARDINALS WIN (37-20)- Carson Palmer and company have a lot to prove this year, and this might be the last year they can with stars aging quickly. This team on both sides of the ball is the most experienced in the league, and it will benefit them early on in non division play. Stafford, who just got paid, will under play, he will get no run support, and questions will rise as to if he was worth the contract.

Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

The defending NFC Champions will look to get their first win, after an embarrassing loss in the Super Bowl. Chicago tries to start the season off right, and get out of the gutter in the NFC North.

Last Game- 2014 Week 6 CHI 27, ATL 13

Spread: Atl -9

Edward Sponeybarger-FALCONS WIN (35-10)-The Falcons are mad and Chicago is first up on the list of redemption. Easy victory for Atlanta.

Jarae Thurmond-FALCONS WIN

John Milanowski- FALCONS WIN A easy pick Atlanta defense is too much for the Bears to handle and the fact that Glennon gets the start over rookie Trubisky will end in failure.

Brian Pezon- FALCONS WIN (35-10)- Atlanta comes out firing on all cylinders. That offense looks like they are going to light up the league this year, For this week that is true, both Freeman and Coleman have over 100 total yards each, Julio Jones has 10 catches 150+ yards and people will start chirping. Don’t forget people they are playing the Bears, THE BEARS.
Christian Rauh-FALCONS WIN (31-13)-If Mitchell Trubisky was named the starter, my score would be alot closer, but i would have the same result. Atlanta has gone half a year hearing about them losing the Superbowl, they are ready to get back into the win column. They will do that Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals-Sunday 9/10 1:00pm Eastern

Joe Flacco returns from injury, and looks to defeat AFC North rivals in Andy Dalton and the Bengals.

Last Game- 2016 Week 17 CIN 27, BAL 10

Spread: Cin -3

Edward Sponeybarger-RAVENS WIN (24-17)-Ravens are the dark horse this year, in my opinion. Looking to prove themselves, they dismantle the Bengals and show the world what they’re capable of. A late score by Cincy makes it appear close, but we know what really happened.
Jarae Thurmond-RAVENS WIN

John Milanowski- BENGALS WIN Another tough choice for me here, but with the question of health in quarterback Joe Flacco I have to go with the Bengals here. Baltimore and their defense have taken a step back in my opinion too.
Brian Pezon- RAVENS WIN (17-10)- Baltimore and Cincinnati will have great games this year. Both teams have similar rosters in that they both have underrated defenses and mediocre offenses. Neither team can run the ball all that well and both have running back by commision. Bengals have the better #1 receiver but Ravens have the better committee at Wide Out. So I choose this game by the better Quarterback. Flacco gets the game winning touchdown in the 4th quarter.

Christian Rauh-BENGALS WIN (21-17)-This game could go either way for me, but i have to give my W to Cincinnati. Andy Dalton has AJ Green and John Ross in his arsenal, add a running back by committee and they come out on top. Joe Flacco who was hurt all preseason will be returning as well, but it’s questionable that he will be 100%, only game time will tell, but with this fear, i have the Bengals on top close.

Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Rams-Sunday 9/10 4:05 pm Eastern

The “Luckless” Colts will head to the LA Coliseum to take on a newly loaded Rams offense.

Last Game- 2013 Week 10 LAR(STL)38, IND 8

Spread: LAR -3.5

Edward Sponeybarger-RAMS WIN (35-10)-Colts stink, and the Rams have too much talent to lose this one.

Jarae Thurmond-RAMS WIN
John Milanowski- RAMS WIN Due to the fact that Luck is out and the colts defense is absolutely terrible i have the Rams winning.

Brian Pezon- RAMS WIN (17-9)- Los Angeles get their first win of the season in their home stadium verse the colts. Rams adding Watkins, Woods and Kupp to that wide receiver depth is big Everett at TE is being often overlooked. All these new toys for Goff in that offense will take it from 8 in the box every play and GURLEY will take this game over. Look out for 150+ yards out of Gurley also 2TDs.
Christian Rauh-RAMS WIN (28-6) The Colts are not a good team this year. Take out the Best player on that team in Andrew Luck to injury, and your terrible. I don’t see Indy making it to the endzone with backup quarterback Scott Tolzien, they will be terrible in the red zone. LA added some great weapons for an attempt for Goff to produce. He had a rough rookie season, but i see him finding his first victory here.

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers-Sunday 9/10 4:25 pm Eastern

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers take on The Legion of Boom and the Seattle Seahawks.

Last Game- 2016 Week 14 GB 38, SEA 10

Spread: GB -3

Edward Sponeybarger-PACKERS WIN (20-16)- Hell of a game on paper. I believe Russell Wilson and the Legion of Boom are too much for Aaron Rodgers, Seattle wins close.

Jarae Thurmond-PACKERS WIN

John Milanowski- PACKERS WIN Both these teams are amazing, but I have more faith in Aaron Rodgers than Russell Wilson in this game, could be the deciding factor. We could be getting a preview of a future playoffs matchup without question.
Brian Pezon- PACKERS WIN (20-17)- This is one of the better matchups we get to see on a every year basis. This year will be just as good a close game for the entire game. A struggling Seahawks offensive line and a great Seattle defense will keep the points low on this one. I see a chess match for sure and I see Rodgers delivering the final kill shot to tight end Martellus Bennett to beat his brother Michael Bennett Seahawks.

Christian Rauh-SEAHAWKS WIN (28-24) The biggest blockbuster trade of the preseason was the trade of Jermaine Kearse to the Jets for Defensive front man Shelton Richardson. Adding Richardson to the defensive line with Michael Bennett and company will be crucial to the entire defense. This will drastically reduce the time Aaron Rodgers has in the pocket, and could make mistakes, i believe he does, Seahawks win.

Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers-Sunday 9/10 4:25 pm Eastern

After a extensive sweep of the front office. The 49ers led by new general manager John Lynch and new head coach Kyle Shanahan take on Cam Newton and the Panthers.

Last Game- 2016 Week 2- CAR 46, SF 27

Spread: Car -5.5

Edward Sponeybarger-PANTHERS WIN (31-13)-Will Cam return to his true form? Will this Niners team stake its claim? Nah… Cam or not, Christian Mccaffrey studs out and helps the Panthers BIG TIME!

Jarae Thurmond-PANTHERS WIN
John Milanowski- PANTHERS WIN The Panthers have a much better team than the  rebuilding 49ers. I don’t see it as a blow out, but Carolina will leave on top.
Brian Pezon- PANTHERS WIN (28-10)- Carolina fell off a bit last year between their defense getting hit with key injury to the league’s best inside linebacker and they also took a big step back by starting two rookie corners and letting their best walk. They bounce back at full strength and Cam Newton looks to have fun again this year with the relaxed celebration rules and most importantly new OFFENSIVE WEAPONS.
Christian Rauh-PANTHERS WIN (41-20)-The 49ers will be an exciting team this year, but it won’t help them on the majority of scoreboards throughout the season. Cam Newton looks to come back to MVP after a below average season. Newton and company will win this one easy.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys-Sunday Night Football 9/10 8:30pm Eastern

Zeke can play! News of Elliott eligible for S.N.F. against division rival Giants could be huge! Can Eli and company hold them off?

Last Game- 2016 Week 14- NYG 10, DAL 7

Spread: Dal -4

Edward Sponeybarger-GIANTS WIN (27-17)-With all the drama in Dallas, the veteran Eli Manning will take advantage of the big lights and media-whirlwind surrounding the Cowboys. Look for the Giants strong defense and high level receiving core to dominate.

Jarae Thurmond-COWBOYS WIN

John Milanowski- GIANTS WIN This was a hard choice, but for me it comes down to the Cowboys secondary. Dallas corners will not be able to keep up with the Giants two headed monster with Odell Beckham Jr., and Brandon Marshall.
Brian Pezon- GIANTS WIN (37-28)- New York and Dallas are going to be great contenders in the NFC this year. This east will come down to these head to head matchups. The Giants defense is better than the Cowboys. Cowboys Offense is better than the Giants, but by how much? My opinion not enough, Giants will be able to shut down Dak and Zeke more than that Cowboys YOUNG secondary can stop OBJ, Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram. Thats too much for two new corners and a new starting safety.
Christian Rauh-COWBOYS WIN (28-24) This game right here will be without a doubt the game of the week. Elliott will be eligible to play, and will go off. Dak Prescott will also play a fantastic game, throwing 2 touchdowns. The Giants will be in this game the entire time though, mainly due to the high level talent in there receiving core. Dallas wins, but not without a fight.

New Orleans at Minnesota Vikings-Monday Night Football 9/11 7:10 pm Eastern

Adrian Peterson wears Black and Gold in his return to Minnesota, in his first game against his former team.

Last Game- 2014 Week 4 NO 20, MIN 9

Spread: Min -3.5

Edward Sponeybarger-VIKINGS WIN (38-36)-Easy Breesy… Not so much. Minnesota looks strong and takes a high scoring game last minute.

Jarae Thurmond-SAINTS WIN

John Milanowski- SAINTS WIN I feel we will see a fantastic season from Drew Brees, as he opens the season. Adrian Peterson returning to Minnesota will be the story here, and he will thrive.
Brian Pezon- VIKINGS WIN (35-31)- Minnesota has a great defense for creating turnovers and creating great field position for their offense. This will come in hand more than once in this game. Brees is not a quarterback who usually has many mistakes. Vikings offense will take advantage of each mistake that Ingram, Kamara and Brees make. 3 fumbles and 1 INT will create easy 24 points for the offense or a return for a TD and will be the difference in the game.
Christian Rauh-SAINTS WIN (38-24)-Drew Brees will have to make due of losing his number 2 receiver Willie Snead, but he will manage. MIchael Thomas and Ted Ginn Jr, will help with the damage from Sneads suspension. Adrian Peterson returns to Minnesota, in his first game after being let go. I believe he proves them wrong, and performs better than his replacement Dalvin Cook. Rookie Corner Marshon Lattimore for the Saints will also be dynamic to this victory, and will record his 1st career interception. Saints win.

Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos-Monday Night Football 9/11 10:20 pm Eastern

Philip Rivers and company play their first game as newly relocated Los Angeles Chargers against Von Miller and the Denver Broncos.

Last Game- 2016 Week 8 DEN 27, LAC(SD) 19

Spread: Den -3.5

Edward Sponeybarger-CHARGERS WIN (31-17)-Chargers have so much talent. This could be the year Philip Rivers shines and makes that push toward a superbowl. (remember that!)

Jarae Thurmond-CHARGERS WIN

John Milanowski- BRONCOS WIN The Chargers Offensive Line is a little weak, and against a good broncos defense will be dangerous for Rivers and company.

Brian Pezon- CHARGERS WIN (21-10)-  Los Angeles Chargers win their first division game of the year getting nice pass rush on Trevor Siemian and rattling his cage. 5 sacks is my prediction for that group led by Bosa and Ingram. Look out Broncos your lack of a run game will hurt you here. “Go Chargers Go” best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.
Christian Rauh-CHARGERS WIN (24-14)– With Denver starting former seventh round pick Trevor Siemian, I just don’t see anything special from this Broncos team. The Chargers who are hurting with injuries, no different than the past few years will find a win here, mainly from fantastic play from the Chargers pass rushing, and the reliable Philip Rivers.

As you see, not all of us agree, and that’s why we gave you different views on each game. We know how it is as fans to only hear one side of the story, here you get five!

We end this Article with the five of us making our Super Bowl predictions before a single game is played. Here they are, we’ll look back and see if any of us get it right!

Edward Sponeybarger- (AFC) Pittsburgh Steelers vs (NFC) New York Giants
know the season has yet to start, but come on, who doesn’t sit around with their buddies drinking, talking to family at those summer get togethers, or envision in your mind the question “Who’s going to the Superbowl this season?.”
For me it’s easy to sit back and instinctually say NEW ENGLAND DUH! But it’s not that easy, TB or not.
There Is just so much more to it than that, though the AFC east is going to be a walk in the park for New England this season, I have my eye on another AFC foe.
The Pittsburgh Steelers! With all the additions, and the young guns on that defense looking to sprout, I don’t think it’s going to be farfetched that if they meet NE in the playoffs, they WILL get after TB much like the Giants did in the two’s SB meetings.
With that in mind my NFC choice is COMPLETELY biased to the NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS! The G-Men are looking better than ever and with all of their newest additions, I believe they will be a step above the rest of the NFC.

Jarae Thurmond- (AFC) Oakland Raider vs (NFC) Atlanta Falcons

Falcons vs Raiders they pull it off this year. Raiders beat Patriots in the snow just like the old “tuck rule” game in 2002. The Falcons beat the Cowboys in Atlanta for revenge from an odd regular season loss to Dallas at home.

John Milanowski- (AFC) New England Patriots vs (NFC) Seattle Seahawks

One last championship for Brady before he retires (not saying it’s after this season) and I think the Seahawks will beat Atlanta in the NFC championship game.

Brian Pezon- (AFC) New England Patriots vs (NFC) New York Giants

Patriots are the most complete team in the AFC, Raiders defense is weak, Texans offense isn’t fully together with a below average quarterback and Steelers secondary isn’t championship caliber. Same for the Giants most complete team in the NFC, Packers have no run game and a mediocre defense, Buccaneers are young and not ready to take that late playoff step yet, Seahawks offensive line is 1-2 injuries away from being the worst ever in NFL.

Christian Rauh- (AFC) Oakland Raiders vs (NFC) Green Bay Packers

The Oakland Raiders were a powerhouse last season, and in my opinion would have made it into the AFC Championship if Quarterback Derek Carr didn’t go down. They will finish with the second best record in the AFC behind the defending super bowl champs, but they will overtake them in the AFC Championship game.  The Green Bay Packers are also another team that will be Solid this season. They will win their division easily, and finish with a first round bye going into the postseason. They defeat the New York Giants in the NFC Championship to face the Raiders.

The season is new, it’s exciting, and it’s going to bring lots of great stories here in the upcoming weeks. Keep following us here at www.BenchCasters.com for all your NFL and sporting news!

The countdown to the chase for the Monster Energy series cup  draws closer as we are two races from playoffs as we go into the “Lady in Black” Darlington Speedway. The competition gets way more intense, as multiple drivers fight for there chance to compete for a chance to make it into the playoffs. We had an eventful weekend with practice, qualifying, and an fantastic race; lets get into it.

Practice-Friday:

So let’s see who can get there car dialed in on this tricky track. Its throwback week on the track, as drivers look to rock old paint schemes. It was pretty awesome to see some blast from the past looks.

This week is a normal week, with all the practice on Friday qualifying Saturday, and race day Sunday night. Plenty of drivers used this time to make plenty of adjustments to keep themselves for earning the common “Darlington Stripe.” There were two practices Friday, lets see who was the fastest five in the first open practice of two friday for the Bojangles Southern 500.

  1. Kyle Larson #42
  2. Denny Hamlin #11
  3. Brad Keselowski #2
  4. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #17
  5. Kevin Harvick #4

The teams had a short break here to debrief before getting ready for final practice for the Bojangles Southern 500 at the Darlington Speedway. After the second practice, this is how the top five rounded out.

  1. Kyle Busch #18
  2. Kevin Harvick #4
  3. Jamie McMurray #1
  4. Martin Truex Jr #78
  5. Denny Hamlin #11

Qualifying-Saturday

The open round of knockout qualifying was only 40 cars, so everyone will compete on Sunday.

As we enter the first round of qualifying, although all 40 will make the race not all will reach the second round of qualifying. A driver must qualify in the top 24 to make it into the second round of qualifying. This will leave the last 16 in the back of the pack. Below are the top 5 racers, after the first round of qualifying, not really a crucial victory, but shows there cars, are where they want them to be.

  1. Kevin Harvick #4
  2. Matt Kenseth #20
  3. Kurt Busch #41
  4. Jamie McMurray #1
  5. Martin Truex Jr #78

There are a few notable drivers that miss out on advancing to round two. Danica Patrick will roll off from 33rd on Sunday. Michael McDowell didnt have a good qualifying either, and will start 30th, we will also see  AJ Allmendinger in 29th. The final two bumps belong to David Ragan and Ty Dillan who will start the race 25th and 26th on Sunday.

After the second round of qualifying, not much changed in the front, with the exception of the 77 Eric Jones, and 42 of Kyle Larson making it into the top 5:

  1. Kevin Harvick #4
  2. Eric Jones #77
  3. Jamie McMurray #1
  4. Kyle Larson #42
  5. Kyle Busch #18

It was not a good round for Hendrick Motorsports with no cars advancing to the final round. Dale Earnhardt Jr will start sunday in 22nd, and Chase Elliott must be disappointed in this qualifying effort after only posting the 21st quickest time. Jimmie Johnson like his other  Hendrick Motorsport teammates can’t not be happy after his qualifying performance was only good enough for 18th. On the bubble, Ricky Stenhouse Jr will roll off in 14th on Sunday. The driver that was the last to be bumped out of the top twelve was Austin Dillon and will start 13th when the green flag comes out in Darlington. The other twelve battled for the pole, and Kevin Harvick came up victorious, it seemed he had the fastest car the majority of the weekend, from practice to qualifying. Here is your Top 5 for Sunday.

  1. Kevin Harvick #4
  2. Martin Truex Jr #78
  3. Kyle Busch #18
  4. Kyle Larson #42
  5. Jamie McMurray #1

Race Day-Sunday

Its race day here at the Darlington Speedway for throwback weekend. The drivers that are worrying the most on points are Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray and Chase Elliott. These three can make the playoffs on points alone, if they continue to have good performances. On the other side of the spectrum, drivers like Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano and Eric Jones need a win to make in into  the chase playoffs.

There was three stages on Sunday night so there is a chance for drivers to get playoff points in the middle of the race. at a least will have two caution. The 500 miles of Darlington Speedway was completed in 367 laps around the track, here is the breakdown of all the major events during the race.

College Football is right around the corner this Saturday marks the first week of the FBS season. Pre season polls for both AP and Coaches polls have been released. They look like this:

21146978_866385580190952_1285729515_o

21191316_866385570190953_1468354200_o

These Polls show what the media and experts see on paper and how they will stack up in a power rankings system. It’s definitely hard to predict what is going to happen throughout the season and how the polls will look at after the regular season is finished and we are looking to see which teams will make the playoffs and how the bowl season will shake up. I like to look ahead so let me do just that and give you which teams I see having the biggest change from these pre season polls till the end of the season polls.

21169313_866385563524287_586751939_o

With the teams most on the rise and fall based on what we just discussed,  lets go ahead and show you what I think the end of the season Rankings will look like. This will also including the top 4 teams who will end up making the College Playoffs.

21147074_866386973524146_1694453564_o.jpg

I will also go as deep as the original coaches poll i shared will you and go to the top 41 teams that end the season and all get bowl games. Lets see how close i get it right here, we will most definitely revisit this at the end of the season.

21170977_866385543524289_1719302063_o

With my final ranking prediction being said,  that means I have the Crimson Tide of Alabama facing the Ohio State Buckeyes as the 1 and 4 seed. I also have the Florida State Seminoles as the number 2 seed taking on the Washington Huskies as the #3 seed. Big change here since there is no Clemson Tigers for the first time in 3 years. I think this would be a great playoff scenario and give the fans the best 4 complete teams in the college ranks in the end. Hope as we get into this college football season we get to take a look back and see how much my rankings match up with the final rankings of the year.

Stay tuned in our episodes to come as we break down the Pre season polls, and discuss college football on the games happening throughout the week.

Let’s take a closer look into the college football world. There are game changers all over the place and individual accomplishment may not lead to team success but it definitely helps their future in making a career out of playing the game of football. Preseason All American teams are out and there are some surprises on where they are placed. So many great players in the college football scene but only so many spots for the All American teams. So let’s take a look at who made the 1st and 2nd teams:

All American 1st Team:

QB- Sam Darnold, USC

HB- Saquan Barkley, Penn St.

HB- Derrius Guice, LSU

WR- James Washington, Oklahoma St.

WR- Christian Kirk, Texas A & M

ATH- Richie James, Middle Tennessee St.

TE Mike Gesick, Penn St.

OL- Orlando Brown, Oklahoma

OL- Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame

OL- Billy Price, Ohio St.

OL- Connor Williams, Texas

OL- Cody O’Connell Washington St.

DL- Arden Key, LSU

DL- Dexter Lawrence, Clemson

DL- Rashan Gary, Michigan

DL- Ed Oliver, Houston

LB- Cameron Smith, USC

LB- Micah Kiser, Virginia

LB- Josey Jewell, Iowa

DB- Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama

DB- Tarvarus McFadden, Florida St.

DB- Marcus Allen, Penn St.

DB- Derwin James, Florida St.

RET- Quadree Henderson, Pittsburgh

K- Daniel Carlson, Auburn

P- Mitch Wisnowsky, Utah

All American 2nd Team:

QB- Lamar Jackson, Louisville

HB- Kamryn Pettway, Auburn

HB- Bo Scarbough, Alabama

WR- Dante Pettis, Washington

WR- Calvin Ridley, Alabama

TE- Mark Andrews, Oklahoma

OL- Mitch Hyatt, Clemson

OL- Frank Ragnow, Arkansas

OL- Mason Cole, Michigan

OL- Jonah Williams, Alabama

OL- Mitch McGlinchey, Notre Dame

DL- Bradley Chubb, N.C. State

DL- Harold Landry, Boston College

DL- Derrick Nnadi, Florida St.

DL- Christian wilkins, Clemson

LB-Tegroy Scales, Indiana

LB- Jordan Jones, Kentucky

LB- Malik Jefferson, Texas

DB- Jordan Thomas, Oklahoma

DB- Jaire Alexander, Louisville

DB- Ronnie Harrison, Alabama

DB- Quin Blanding, Virginia

RET- Byron Pringle, Kansas St.

K- Tyler Davis, Penn St.

P- J.K. Scott- Alabama

Surprises to where they are:

  1. James Washington of Oklahoma St. although I do see Washington as a stud at wide out I just think there is a number of Wide Receivers I would have put on the All American first team before him.
  2. Richie James of Middle Tennessee State. This is more of a fact that I am surprised he got the recognition he deserves and didn’t get left out for someone at a bigger name school. Over 2000 offensive yards and 16 TDs is impressive as i’ve seen, very happy to see him make the first team as an athlete.
  3. Rashan Gary from Michigan is still young and didn’t have freakish stats last year, so for him to make the 1st team All Americans list baffles me. When you put him above incredible players such has Harold Landry of Boston College and Bradley Chubb of NC State is appalling.

Snubs left off the list:

  1. Myles Gaskin of Washington Huskies. This running back has had over 1300 yards rushing and double digits touchdowns both years at UW. to not make either 1st or 2nd team all american is hard to believe.
  2. Baker Mayfield for the Oklahoma Sooners had the best overall Quarterback rating last year and he did make either list. Everyone is caught up in Sam Darnolds potential and sleeping on a proven commodity look out for Baker Mayfield to make some noise.
  3. Michael Gallup at WR from Colorado State  is also a top wide out and could have made the 2nd team all american list. 1st team had 3 WR so to have Gallup as the third WR would have made a lot of sense with him have 1272 yards receiving and 14 TDs last year.

My prediction of the final All American 1st team:

QB- Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma

HB-  Saquan Barkley, Penn St.

HB- Bo Scarborough, Alabama

WR- Calvin Ridley, Alabama

WR- Christian Kirk, Texas A&M

WR- Austin Pettis, Washington

TE- Adam Breneman, UMASS

OL- Orlando Brown, Oklahoma

OL- Mitch McGlinchey,  Notre Dame

OL- Billy Price, Ohio St.

OL- Cody O’Connell, Washington St.

OL- Jonah Williams, Alabama

DL- Bradley Chubb, NC State

DL- Harold Landry, Boston College

DL- Arden Key, LSU

DL- Derrick Nnadi, Florida State

LB- Cameron Smith, USC

LB- Mikah Kiser, virginia

LB- Travin Howard, TCU

DB-  Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama

DB-  Jordan Thomas, Oklahoma

DB-  Tarvaus McFadden, Florida State

DB- Derwin James, Florida State

K- Gary Wunderlich, Ole Miss

P- Johnny Townsend, Florida

WWE SUMMERSLAM 2017- BenchCasters PPV Recap

WWE Summer Slam 2017-BenchCasters PPV RecapBy Brian Pezon

August 21st, 2017

Brian Pezon is an Editor at BenchCasters. To Find more from Brian, follow him on Twitter @BrianPezon or go to http://www.benchcaster.com

SummerSlam took place on August 20, 2017 in Brooklyn New York. This blockbuster event consisted of 13 matches in all. 3 of these matches took place on a 2 hour pre show. There were some historic things that took place on this night including 8 titles being put on the line in their respected bouts. Let’s take a look at the pre show matches.

Miz-tourage defeated Hardyz & Jason Jordan

This match was speculated to be added to the card the week leading up to SummerSlam. It was added the morning of SummerSlam and not much was really thought of this match. I’m not sure if they wanted Miz and Jason Jordan to just be showcased, or if they just didn’t want to try to fill two hours of air time with only 2 matches. Any ways snooze-fest of a match and Miz and his minions win. Match Rating 1.5/5

Neville defeated Akira Tozawa ©

Akira Tozawa had a deep submission in and then hit Neville with a shining wizard and got a close 2 count. Unfortunately for Tozawa that’s as close as he would come to retaining his belt. Neville hits the Red Arrow and wins the cruiserweight title back. King of the Cruiserweights back upon his throne. Match Rating 2.75/5

The Usos defeat The New Day ©

True tag teams in this match with great teamwork and tandem offense. Good back and forth action throughout the match, there wasn’t really any point I felt was a bore. You can see the in-rng chemistry between the New Day and The Uso’s, but we need to see these two teams face other true tag teams. Suspense got the crowd going with a series of fun and exciting moves. This chain of moves ended up with The Uso’s in the position to get the pinfall victory. The Uso’s are your new Smackdown Tag Team Champions. Match Ratings 3.75/5

A video promo has many WWE superstars that aren’t included in SummerSlam and ends with HBK, Shawn Michaels come out dressed as Colonel Sanders of KFC.

Pre Show Rating 3/ 5

SummerSlam itself started the same way as the pre show did. Match 1 of SummerSlam was a let down and you can tell the difference in booking between the main roster and NXT. Without going too far into my disgust for matches like this let’s go ahead and look at the entire SummerSlam card. Here is all 10 Summerslam matches:

John Cena defeated Baron Corbin

Kick off match of the main card has Baron Corbin look to take out some of his frustration of losing his money in the bank briefcase on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown. Match didnt wow many people but gave John Cena a victory on SummerSlam and showed off some of Baron Corbin’s Strength. Match Rating 2.5/5

Natalya defeated Naomi ©

Having Natalya challenge for the Smackdown women’s championship makes a lot more sense than Lana. Natalya has put in years to get this opportunity. Both women are polished in ring talents and they put on a nice match with both women having their momentum swings. Natalya’s second sharpshooter gives her, her second women’s championship. A well deserved feat that I would have like to see when she was still the leader of the welcoming committee. Match Rating 2.5/5

Big Cass defeated Big Show

Big show comes out the gate looking strong. Enzo Amore was dancing around and talking crap in the shark cage as Big Show had the momentum. Big Shows hand hampers his performance and doesn’t allow him to do all he wants and ends up giving Big Cass the opening he needed. Enzo Amore escapes the shark cage as he tries to give Big Show a breather. Enzo Amore gets down from the cage and gets a big Boot and goes down quicker than a referee. Big Cass gives Big Show a Big boot and then the Empire Elbow and gets the pinfall.

Match Rating 3/ 5

Randy Orton defeated. Rusev

Rusev attacks Orton before the match while Orton is making his entrance. Randy Orton tells referee he can go and the referee rings the bell. Rusev rushes Orton, Orton hits him with an RKO out of nowhere and 1-2-3 it’s over. Match Rating 1/ 5

Sasha Banks defeated Alexa Bliss ©

Sasha Banks took a lot of punishment to her shoulder/arm just like her friend who she replaced to be in this match Bayley. After exchanges of momentum back and forth Sasha banks hooked in the Bank Statement twice and ended Alexa Bliss’s title reign.Sasha Banks is your new Raw Women’s Champion. Match Rating 3/ 5

Finn Balor defeated Bray Wyatt
Finn Balor came out as the Demon King as many expected. Giving him the best entrance of the night. Last time we got to see the Demon King was at last year’s SummerSlam. Balor has a strong match and really owns Bray Wyatt for most of the match. With only a few offensive flurries against Balor, Wyatt’s intimidation tactics do not work and Wyatt fails to ever get the momentum really in his favor. The Demon King Finn Balor picks up the victory winning his second SummerSlam match. Match Rating 3.75/5

Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose defeat Cesaro & Sheamus ©
Former Shield members reunite to take on the Raw tag team champions. Rollins and Ambrose chemistry is still evident and they work well together in the match. Finish of the match see’s Cesaro and Sheamus colliding and ending up costing them the upper hand and two super kicks and a dirty deeds leads us to see Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose pick up the victory. Rollins and Ambrose are your new Raw Tag Team Champions. Match Rating 3.25/5

AJ Styles © defeats Kevin Owens
All the makings of the type of match that has possibility to steal the show. As advertised it did just that, having Shane McMahon as special guest referee was a nice touch and really added a nice element to the match. Both styles and Owens had run ins with shane as the re, even with this being the case Shane-O-Mac called it right down the middle to the best of his ability. Close calls, reversal, innovative offense this match had all we were expecting. AJ Styles hit a couple of Styles Clash’s to retain the U.S. title. First successful title defense of the night. Match Rating 4.25/5

Jinder Mahal © defeated Shinsuke Nakamura

In yet another disappointing title defense jinder Mahal wins. The Singh brothers interfere setting up Mahal for the win. Mahal has not won a single match with the title on the line clean yet, The Singh Brothers and the Great Khali have all been a key contributor in his victories. A dud of a Co-Main event, not much for the fans to get hype about here. No close pin falls, no chain of innovated moves or reversals. A distraction leads to a Khallas and a 1-2-3. Jinder Mahal is still you WWE Champion. Match Rating 2/ 5

Fatal 4way for the Universal Title

Brock Lesnar © defeated Roman Reigns

Braun Strowman looks unstopable and dominates early. Brock Lesnar is taken out by Strowman by putting him through two announcer’s tables and a third one flipped over on him. Brock is carted out into the back. Reigns, Samoa Joe, and Strowman continue the match and there is chaos inside and outside of the ring. Brock Lesnar comes storming back down to the ring with a pleading Paul Heyman behind him not to return. Brock Lesnar hits an F-5 Samoa Joe who had a Coquina Cluth locked in. Roman Reigns Spears Braun Strowman. Then Reigns rushes at Lesnar as if he was going to Superman Punch him and also got an F-5. Lesnar covers Reigns for the pinfall victory. Brock Lesnar is still your WWE Universal Champion. Match Rating 4.25/5

NXT Take-Over Brooklyn III took place the night before Summerslam. This NXT event consisted of only 5 matches but yet it felt so layered and complete. NXT always puts on great matches and their special events are always argued to be better than the main event product they alway accompany on that weekend. On Saturday we got to witness 5 great matches none of which left you upset with the result, only leave you wanting more. Let’s dive into the results now:

  • Andrade ALmas Zelina defeated Johnny Gargano

The kick off match was a fantastic match! It was so good,  I rate as the best match of the night. This spectacular contest went back and forth with plenty of awe worthy moments and fun wrestling moves and reversals many fans haven’t seen before. In the end Andrade Almas walked away with the victory over Johnny Wrestling. Match Rating 4.75/5

  1. Sanity defeated The Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championship

Second match of the night started with Sanity getting the upper hand and attacking The Authors of Pain before the bell officially started the match. Sanity also pulled a fast one with a nice switch-a-roo allowing Eric Young to be in the match with Alexander Wolfe instead of Killian Dain. Killian Dain was outside the ring along with Nikki Cross for the match. After 12 minutes of a closely contested bout the team of Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young picked up the victory. Sanity is your new NXT Tag Team Champions. Match Rating 3.75/5

~ Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly formerly known as reDRagon attacked both Authors of Pain and Sanity. Looked like they attacked The Authors of Pain to get them out of the way but really went after the new NXT Tag Team Champions. So we will be paying close attention to a new possible feud, in shows to come.

  1. Aleister Black defeated Hideo Itami

Aleister Black had the best entrance of the night with a live performance of his theme song by Code Orange. Hideo Itami hit Aleister Black in the face early on and he had a bloody nose for most of the match. At one point in the match they were exchanging kick for kick, then chop for chop. Aleister Black ended up picking up the victory after hitting his finishing move Black Mass. Match Rating 3.5/5

  1. Asuka retained her Championship over Ember Moon

This was my most anticipated match of the night. Asuka vs Ember Moon, great build up, long lasting storyline. Ember moon really looked like she had what it takes to end the streak and become the new NXT women’s champion. Ember Moon hit the Eclipse and Asuka kicked out. At that point in time I actually yelled at my T.V. and knew that Asuka would retain, as she did. Ember Moon gave her, her best effort and it just wasn’t enough. Asuka moves to 504 days of holding the NXT women’s championship. Match Rating 4.25/5

  1. Drew McIntyre defeated Bobby Roode

The NXT Takeover Brooklyn III main event for the NXT Championship was better than I anticipated. Drew McIntyre put up a great fight against Bobby Roode. Bobby Roode was a heavy favorite to retain his belt. After a few close calls on both sides Drew McIntyre did the impossible and bested Bobby Roode. Match Rating 4 / 5

~ After the match McIntyre was celebrating his victory and seen reDRagon on the Apron. As he went over to confront Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, Adam Cole appeared out of nowhere and attacked McIntyre. This believed to set up a potential feud and a definite great debut.

So with NXT Takeover Brooklyn III in the books we have new NXT Tag Team and NXT Champion. The attacks on both of the new champions lead some fans to believe there is a possibility of the Authors of Pain and Bobby Roode may be heading up to the main roster. That being very well executed leaves intrigue for fans to tune in to NXT’s weekly show on the WWE Network on Wednesdays.

Over All Show Rating 4 / 5

As the countdown for the playoff draws closer, we enter the homestretch with just two races to go including this week’s night race Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

So let’s see who can get there car dialed in at the world’s fastest half mile here at Bristol. This week is a lot like last week a normal race weekend but with a twists because the race is not Sunday it Saturday night. Since the race is Saturday night, on Friday there has to be two practices and qualifying that day.

First we start off with the open practice on Friday, here are the top five fastest:

  1. Denny Hamlin #11
  2. Kyle Busch #18
  3. Kasey Kahne #5
  4. Ryan Blaney #21
  5. Clint Bowyer #14

The teams then  debrief for an hour or so then move onto the second and final practice for the week. The fastest in final practice this week at Bristol were:

  1. Ryan Blaney #21
  2. Kyle Larson #42
  3. Ryan Newman #31
  4. Jamie McMurray #1
  5. Kyle Busch #18

After the two practices, the drivers have about a 4 hours break before they qualify. One drive will miss the race due to the fact there are forty one cars here this week attempting to qualify at Bristol. If for some chance qualifying is rained out the 66 of Timmy Hill will miss the race due to his team, MBM Motorsport is the lowest in both attempts and car owner points out of the open teams here this week at Bristol.

We take a look into the opening round of knockout qualifying at the world’s fastest half mile, there was three rounds of qualifying. In order to advance to the second round each driver must end up in the top 24. Here is how the first round panned out:

  1. Kyle Busch #18
  2. Denny Hamlin #11
  3. Chase Elliott #24
  4. Jamie McMurray #1
  5. Martin Truex Jr.

The only driver that  didn’t qualify for the race was the 66 of Timmy Hill. Hill just didn’t have a fast car this week, and  he packed up and left Bristol early. A few well known drivers made the cut, but not in the greatest of positions, Dale Earnhardt Jr. started deep in the field  Saturday night after only be able to qualify 31st. Similar to Dale Jr. is Kevin Harvick, who rolled off from the 29th position after failing to get out of the opening round of qualifying.

Here are the top five after the second round of qualifying:

  1. Denny Hamlin #11
  2. Matt Kenseth #20
  3. Eric Jones #77
  4. Joey Logano #22
  5. Daniel Suarez #19.

Just like last week at Michigan, Jimmie Johnson will start in row eleven after qualifying twenty first this week at Bristol. Also failing to advance was the fastest driver in the previous round Which was Kyle Busch, who started 18th.. Alongside Kyle in row nine was the 2 of Brad Keselowski.

The final twelve battled in out for the final round of qualifying. The fastest and your pole sitter this week at Bristol Motor Speedway is the 77 of Eric Jones, here is the rest of the top 5:

  1. Eric Jones #77
  2. Kyle Larson #2
  3. Kasey Kahne #5
  4. Chase Elliott #24
  5. Matt Kenseth #20

It was an interesting short weekend to say the least, but now let’s look into what matters most, race day. We look to see what races will help there chances at the playoffs. Eric Jones who got the pole, was a 130 points below the cut line, and is despite need for a win to automatically qualify, but that didn’t happen here on Saturday night.

Before the race we also looked in to other drivers that need a win, or top finish would greatly benefit there chances. Clint Bowyer, stuck out the most. Needing to have some luck on his side, Bowyer sat just 31 points below the cut going into the race. Another guys who was hoping for a good night was Chase Elliott, Jamie McMurray and Matt Kenseth who was 62, 53, and 31 points above the cut respectfully, and needed to hold on.

Before the race even began, Kasey Kahne experienced some bad luck, he got a flat tire, and since he had to replace the tire, it was not the set he qualified on, and had to go to back of the pack. Here is the breakdown of the major events, at the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race in Bristol.
